The Career & Technical Education programs of Lawrence County Schools hosted the first LCSS CTE Leadership Summit on Tuesday
Approximately 250 students from our three high schools participated in the day. The theme of the event was “Attitude Reflects Leadership”. The day began with the pledge led by FBLA State Officer, Madison Wheeley followed by inspirational leadership quotes such as “A great leader doesn’t set out to be a leader but to make a difference.”
Students competed in a team building activity that reinforced working together and that positive reinforcement will help you achieve your goals at a fast pace.
Communication and strong character were also a highlight of the day reinforcing the fact that a strong leader is kind. Local attorney and Summertown High School alumni, Ryan Durham was the first guest speaker of the day followed by anti-bullying activist, Shaylene King from Nashville.
The final activity of the day included students watching the movie, Wonder at Crockett Cinemas which is a life changing movie with the great message of “Choosing Kind.” Special thanks to the team of teachers that organized the day which includes: Sherry Stout, Mary Pack, Clarissa Huntley, Katie Hurst, Melissa Brazier, Hope McDow, Pam Bonee, Alanna Harris, and Holly True. CTE Director, Shannon Watson shares, “Days like LCSS CTE Leadership Summit are days students will remember from their high school experience.
The impact of encouraging our youth to be great leaders that are kind will be huge for our schools and community. Students in attendance exhibited outstanding behavior and were engaged the entire day.
As CTE Director of Lawrence County Schools I strongly believe this is by far one of the best initiatives our programs have offered our students. I am already looking forward to next year!”
In addition, LCSS wishes to thank First Baptist Church and their team for welcoming our students and staff and helping with set up for the day.
